And the Oscar for Best Red Carpet Look Goes To

Y’all I am ashamed of myself.  I have yet to acknowledge that it is once again my favorite time of year.  That’s right it’s…AWARDS SEASON!!!!!
To be completely honest I’ve been a major slacker on the awards shows this year.  I didn’t even watch the Golden Globes! (mouth hangs open in shock).  I can’t even remember why I didn’t get to watch it, all I know is that I had to record it and watch it later. (Although that wasn’t a bad thing because I found this years show to be a little, well, slow and boring.)
Unfortunately that also means that I missed the other great part of awards season which is all the red carpet pre-shows.  I didn’t get to ooh and ahh over all the amazing gowns and over all looks each of the celebrities were wearing.
And what’s even more unfortunate is that I’m going to be missing the Oscars Red Carpet pre-shows too!!  I know! I’m devastated!  But I guess I have a good reason for missing, I’m co-hosting my best friends baby shower that weekend.  SO yeah, that’s way more important.
Anywho, I’ve always thought it would be neat to actually get to attend a Red Carpet event (and one day I will with my future husband, Leo (as in DiCaprio).  As I watch pre-shows showcasing all the fabulous looks the celebrities are wearing, I can’t help but think about what I would wear IF I had the chance to strut the red carpet next to Meryl Streep and Kate Winslet on the arm of the gorgeous Mr. DiCaprio.
Weddington Way is an online shop that specializes in bridesmaids dresses.  What is crazy is that even before I decided to participate in their challenge I already was aware of their website.  One of my best friends is getting married next December and she has asked me to be in her wedding. And guess where we are getting our bridesmaids dresses from?  That’s right Weddington Way!
It was SUCH a hard choice because they have some AH-MAZING dresses on their website.  But the minute I laid eyes on the gown below I just knew that it was the perfect red carpet gown for me.
Without further ado I give you my dream red carpet look:

Here are the details:

1. Dress:  Style 7319i by Watters is a full length bridesmaid dress in sequined lace and bobbinet. It features an illusion netting v-neckline and a floor length skirt with a double-faced satin ribbon at the waist. (Description comes directly from the website).  I am just IN LOVE with this dress!  It is exactly what I think a red carpet dress should be.  Feminine, with a slight hint of vintage chic.  I think the colors are fairly unique for what you see on the red carpet nowadays.  I just adore it.

2. Hair:  I would go with a messy up-do with some soft tendrils hanging down on either side of the face.  The back of the dress goes into a deep V so having your hair up would show off more of the lace top and would allow people to get a better overall effect of the dress.

3. Jewelry:  I’m not a huge fan of over the top jewelry on the red carpet, especially with a dress as delicate as this one.  So I’ve chosen very soft blush pink crystal stud earrings from Endora Jewlery.  They can purchased for a pretty reasonable price on Etsy.  Along with delicate rose gold and diamond bracelets by Monica Vinader, which can also be purchased online.  I would stack the the bracelets on one arm and have a pretty ring or something (preferably my amazing engagement ring from Mr. DiCaprio) on the opposite hand.  No necklace, again I want eyes to be drawn to the detail of the bodice of the gown and a necklace would draw away from that.

4. Makeup:  The red carpet is a place to really shine.  And with such a demure and delicate dress I think sticking with a neutral but sparkly eye is the way to go.
5. Nails: To add a bit of sparkle to the whole ensemble I think putting a bit of gold sparkle on a simple nude or light pink nail polish preferably from OPI as that is my nail polish brand of choice.
6. Shoes: Simple light gold high heels are the perfect finish to my red carpet look.  I wanted something classic and simple so I went with these Aerin Cocobay high heels to complete the look.
Well there you have it.  My dream red carpet look.  Classic, a tad vintage, delicate and feminine.  Now I just need to figure out a way to meet my dream celebrity man (yes Mr. DiCaprio I’m looking at you) and I can make this dream a reality!

Online Dating: Episode 2

Saturday I went on my second official Match.com date.

I know what you’re thinking if you read my first post about starting this whole online dating adventure.  “Kathleen, its January.  You went on your last date in October.  What’s the deal?”

Well after that first date, where we had a fantastic time (at least I thought we had) and he never called or texted me again. Yeah it was a great feeling.  I guess I lost some of the enthusiasm I had when I started.  I didn’t check my profile as much, then the holidays rolled around and I went home for two weeks.  Then my Grandmother passed away and I just wasn’t in the mood to date.

Then I realized that I had spent you know money for said profile and I needed to at least get my money’s worth.  So I jumped back in.

I started talking to…….I think I’m gonna call him Workout Guy……about 2 weeks ago via the app.  But per usual I was terrible at checking and responding via the app so I bit the bullet and told him to text me.  We had exchanged the typical where are you originally from, what do you do, how long have you been on Match emails.  So when he texted me we moved on to other more interesting topics.

I’m not going to bore you with the details of the early text messages as they were pretty standard get to know you messages.  Until last week.  Until I got some red lights going off about Workout Guy.

Now from his nickname I think you can tell what this guy was pretty much obsessed with, working out.  I realized this after he spent all of last Monday asking me about my workout habits.

“Where do you workout?”
“Who do you workout with?”
“Do you like her”
“What’s your favorite type of workout?”
and my personal favorite, “Have you seen results yet?”

At that point I realized that he thought I was Ms. Workout Freak 2015.  So I quickly disillusioned him of that idea.

I had further proof that he was obsessed with working out when he told me that he was training for a bodybuilding type competition.  Then still more proof when he flat out told me and I quote,
“My life revolves around they gym, protein shakes, pre workout drinks, chicken, salmon, jasmine rice, almond butter, egg whites, and oatmeal…”

To which I responded with, ” Uh Oh. My life revolves around binge watching TV shows and movies, reading, being as lazy as I can, eating sushi, and most recently fancy cheese, salami, and crackers.”

So I told myself that even though we didn’t have that much in common, he’s still a nice guy so when he asked if we could meet I said yes.  Sadly though he didn’t win himself very many cool kid points with the next two parts of my story.

Fast forward to Wednesday, Workout Guy asks what I would like to do.  I’ve already told him I love the movies so he suggested seeing a movie and then I suggested going to dinner somewhere beforehand so we could chat. He said he would pick three places and then I could choose which sounded good.

Here were my options: Torchy’s Tacos, Sushi Hana, and Grimaldi’s.  Now I’ve been to the other two places but never to Grimaldi’s but I know it’s pizza place and my roommate said he was good.  So because of those two factors I said Grimaldi’s.  To which he responded,

“Ah, the inner fat kid won out in the end huh.”

I’m sorry what?  Did you just call me a fat kid and basically judge my restaurant choice without first having met me.  And why would even give me that as a choice if you’re gonna be a total jackass about it if I were to chose it.  I was fairly put off after having read that.

Then within a few minutes he questioned why I wanted to know his last name. Which I’m pretty sure was supposed to be a joke but still, you don’t do that to someone you’ve met online and are about to meet.  Of course I want to know your last name, weirdo, I have to make sure you’re not a rapist and stalker via Facebook.  I also need to give your full name to as many people as possible so that I tell all my friends your name in case I disappear.

But this last thing takes the cake my friends.  It. Takes. the. Cake.

At around 5:30 (Still on Wednesday) he asked what I was doing, I was getting a manicure.  I asked what he was doing.  He said, “Just got to the gym.” (shocking) “It’s back day, I’m gonna die.”  He then preceded to tell me he would “send me a picture” when he was done.

Once again fast forward to later that night at around 12:30am, I am already sound asleep in my bed and my phone receives a text message from Workout Guy of…..you guessed it….a selfie pic of his back while he’s flexing………..

I’ll just let that stew a moment.  Soak all that in.

And then say it with me…..WHO DOES THAT!!!!  WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT??? NO ONE WANTS A BACK SELFIE!! NO ONE!!!!!!

(Ps. Sorry if you didn’t want to see that, but I felt the only way to get you to experience what I did when I saw it…was to post it.)

I shared the above story with pretty much all of my girlfriends and I asked them whether or not I should still go on the date.  They all said yes.  Just go and see what happens.  Who know maybe he’s just awkward and slightly douchie via text.

Well I went.  I had an awful time with a very boring and oddly proportioned human male.  He did pay for my lunch and he was polite and all that jazz. But there was absolutely no spark, no butterflies, no hint of I want to see you again.  So after about an hour of chatting and eating at Torchy’s Tacos I said thanks for lunch and goodbye.

And I have yet to speak to him since.  Which is a ok with me.

On to the next one! 🙂

Hopefully the next episode goes better.  I plan to stick with the whole online dating thing through March.  Then well try other avenues to meet the love of my life.  🙂

Also here’s a Christmas themed selfie, so you don’t have that awful back image in your head all day.  I know I did.

Have a great Tuesday!

2015

Hello friends and welcome to the first official week of February.
I hope your weekend was utterly delightful!  Mine was pretty eventful, and by that I mean I spent most of it on my couch watching HBO and the Walking Dead.  I did have one pretty noteworthy hour on Saturday where I went and met a match.com fellow. But you’ll have to wait until later in the week to hear all about that thrilling experience. (Hopefully you’ve picked up on the sarcasm there.)
I know January is the typical “share your new goals for the new year post.”  But I was still MIA at the beginning of January so I’m gonna use the 2nd of February to get my goals written down.
*****
I didn’t set goals for 2014.  Not sure why, but I guess I was so wrapped up in what was going on in my life when 2014 rolled around, that I didn’t really see the need to set any goals.
So I went back to the goals I set at the beginning of 2013 to see if I was successful at meeting any of these goals.  And thankfully I had met at least 4 of them!
(Click here and here to read about the accomplishment of two of the goals)
I feel like goals are important things to have because they help hold you accountable for the year.  They help give your life a sense of purpose and give you a feeling of accomplishment when one of your goals is reached.
So without further ado here are my goals for 2015:
1. Get a new job.  I know this is going to be shocking considering we all know how much I dislike my current job but I think if I make it a goal to get a new job not a new career, just a new job in a school that I would want to work at for the next 20 years. (although I did start looking at jobs with the Department of State this morning because of a blog post I read. I haven’t completely ruled that out yet!)
2. Build my wardrobe.  Since moving to a place where it actually gets cold in the winter, I’ve realized that my wardrobe is not nearly diverse enough.  I need to add some good quality staple items that will can easily transition between the seasons.
3. Keep blogging.  I don’t want what happened in 2014 to happen in 2015.  I WILL be better about keeping up with my blog, because it is something that I genuinely love my little piece of the internet.
4. Read at least 65 books.  If not more.
5. Say YES more.  I say no a lot.  To myself. To friends. To family.  This year I will say YES!
6. Explore my city.  I want to get out and see Houston.  I want to go to museums, parks, art galleries…….I want to see more of the place I’ve chosen to re-start my life.
7. Drink more water.  This is hard because I hate water.  But I will drink more.
8. Write more.  Letters. Blog posts. Notes to myself. Notes to others. Maybe even try my hand at NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month).  I mean I’ve read enough novels, maybe it’s time to try  writing my own.  Thank goodness I have till November to think of a plot.
I think that’s a pretty good starting place.  The great thing about goals is that you can always create more!
The first month of the new year wasn’t too shabby.  Here’s to hoping the next 11 are even better! 🙂
Have a great Monday! 🙂
